It is less than a week since Circus Harmony and Escuela Nacional de Circo de Puerto Rico ended their Revolution for Harmony Tour 2 in St Louis. Our Puerto Rican partners went home to crazy political upheaval in Puerto Rico that barely makes the news here. The tragedy at our border and many borders continue as people seek refuge. In the circus, we take care of each other. Those were the moments that touched me the most— tender, small, personal moments of support, teaching, caring that I saw from one young person to another. This is how we want these young people to go forward in life: with the courage to care! #lifteachotherup!
The shows featured amazing feats of circus skill and daring that exhibited the incredible the trust and responsibility that these young performers developed between them. Performances were held in venues throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area including at City Museum, The MUNY, Arthouse St. Louis and Busch Stadium. You can see the complete tour here and view numerous photos on the Circus Harmony facebook page and the National Circus School of Puerto Rico’s Instagram page!
This inspirational Peace Through Pyramids partnership was generously supported by Mary Strauss and Suzi Latorre, with funding from the Arts & Education Council of St. Louis, Missouri Humanities Council, Regional Arts Commission, Hispanic Leaders Group LiUNA Local 110, the Puerto Rican Society of St. Louis and Yadier Molina’s Fundación 4. Lodging was provided by The Last Hotel STL, a beautiful, new hotel in downtown St. Louis near Circus Harmony’s City Museum home. The Puerto Rican Society of St. Louis sponsored the show at Ballpark Village. At that game, members of the Revolution for Harmony Tour also threw out the first pitch circus-style — form a 10 person pyramid! The Hispanic Leaders Group and LiUNA Local 110 presented the final show at Forest Park Community College in support of the Hispanic Scholarship Alliance. #supporteachother
The two troupes are already planning to continue their partnership next summer with the Revolution for Harmony Tour 3. For 2020, the groups would reunite in Puerto Rico. Fundraising for this next chapter has already started and donations can be made at Circus Harmony’s website,
These young people performed for over a thousand people (plus the thousands at Busch Stadium who saw that first pitch) in the two weeks they were together. They did shows throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area. Most importantly, these wonderful young artists demonstrated that when you concentrate on what connects you, instead of what divides you, you can create something amazing! #peacethrupyramids
