Circus Science

What’s more fun and engaging than an exploding volcano in science class? Turning the whole class into an actual circus!

Circus Science is an innovative program that combines the learning of science concepts with teaching circus arts.  Our experienced teaching artists work together with the classroom teacher to create a curriculum unique to what students are learning in class to create space for further exploration and understanding of the curriculum.

We use two novel and engaging means: the physical activities of circus disciplines and the performative art of putting on a show. The students explore Newton’s Laws of Motion through tumbling and partner acrobatics, centrifugal and centripetal force through plate spinning and hooping, along with basic anatomy and physiology, nutrition and the importance of stretching and strengthening. In their final show, the students will demonstrate what they learned to other children in the audience.

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process.  They show greater knowledge retention, interest in science, and classroom engagement through arts integrated education.

Circus Harmony’s creative teaching artists can come to your classroom live or via zoom. The basic offering is a once-per-week, 15-week semester class for students in grades K-8. This creative approach will make science come alive through circus arts.
