Leaping Into Spring
“Leap and the net will appear” is a quote often attributed to an anonymous Zen source but is actually from American naturalist, John Burroughs. In any case, it is certainly apropos in circus and in life. It is the epitome of ‘going for it’, taking a risk and just going on faith. Really, in the circus, on flying trapeze at least, the net is always there but the point is to go across and ‘land’ in the arms of your catcher. You can do this because you have learned how to swing on the bar, you know when to let go and what to do in midair to put yourself in the correct position to be caught. The transformation is between. The trick is what happens in the air — a split, a somersault, a shooting star. But the true ending of the trick is when you go back from the catcher, to the bar and then alight safely back onto the platform. For any of this to happen, you have to take the leap. The net quote is to assure you that once you leap, whatever you need will be there.
At Circus Harmony, our Spring semester starts in February. In the winter. We have already started but you can still sign up for another week or so. We have also set the opening date for the Circus Harmony Flying Trapeze Center. It is April 1. No fooling! We hope you will come leap and soar with us. Circus is a perfect way to take a leap. We promise you the net will appear— whether you are signing up for clowning, juggling, contortion or trapeze . We also believe you or your child will feel transformed by any circus experience with us!
Part of Circus Harmony’s mission is to help people “Defy gravity, soar with confidence and leap over social barriers.” Everything you do with us—- taking a class, booking our youth circus performers, buying a t-shirt or our new CD— helps a child achieve all that. So, we hope you will leap with us and support the leaping of others. We think you will find that when you commit yourself and take that first leap, you will truly enjoy the fight!
